I mentioned in Episode 4 that Lviv got it's coffee culture from the Austro-Hungarian Empire, but the rest of Ukraine knew about coffee long before than as the Zaporizhian Cossacks drank coffee regularly due to their interaction with the Tatars and Ottoman Empire. For those who know Ukrainian, here's a great video from BBC Ukraine explaining how the Cossacks drank their coffee:
